# Receiving email

> Receive inbound email through the Paubox Email API: provision domains and retrieve messages programmatically.

Paubox Receiving lets you accept inbound email via the Email API. Provision a domain, and pull messages and attachments via REST, with no mail server to run.

## How it works

1. **Enable inbound email.** A receiving domain is automatically provisioned as a subdomain of `inbound.paubox.email` (e.g. `gentle-dolphin.inbound.paubox.email`). A catch-all inbox handles mail to any address on the domain.
2. **Receive email.** Anyone can send to any address on your domain. Messages are stored and available via the API within seconds.
3. **Retrieve messages.** List, read, and download attachments through the API. Cursor-based pagination keeps large inboxes fast.
4. **Get notified.** Subscribe to the `email.inbound.received` webhook event to receive a POST to your endpoint each time an email arrives.

## Resources

| Resource | Description |
| :- | :- |
| [Domains](/email-api/receiving/list-domains) | Provision and manage `*.inbound.paubox.email` subdomains |

## Limits

* Domains per account: contact support for limits above the default.
* Email retrieval: paginated, up to 100 per request.
* Attachment download: returns raw bytes; size limited by the original message.
